I have found the TV series GREAT CANAL JOURNEYS to be some of the best television ever to be produced. It purports to be about narrowboat journeys but is so much greater than the sum of its parts that it's a miracle to behold. Filtered through the lives of Tim and Prunella (and seen peripherally through the lens of Prunella's very functional disability) the series becomes a treatise on life itself...its allusions, illusions, its triumphs, and its ultimate decline. I have rarely been more diverted or delighted sitting in front of a screen. This companion book is a must-have for anyone who enjoys the series. Tim has turned in an important companion to the series.
